World No. 1 Rumesh Pathirage will look to become the first Sri Lankan to win gold in the javelin throw event at the Asian Games, as he takes the field in the final on Monday.
Pathirage has enjoyed a breakthrough year, winning titles at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship and Commonwealth Games. He also broke the fabled 90m mark thrice this year.
Reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem will also be part of the field. But the Pakistani athlete has had a poor year so far, with a Season’s Best throw of 78.63m.
In Neeraj Chopra’s absence, the Indian challenge will be led by Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh. Only Pathirage has a better throw this season, among the Asian Games participants.
In the last Asiad, in Hangzhou, India did a one-two in men’s javelin, with Neeraj winning gold and Kishore Jena bagging silver.

When and where is the Asian Games 2026 men’s javelin throw final happening?
The men’s javelin throw final of Asian Games 2026 will take place at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. It will start at 4:45 PM IST on Monday (September 28).
