India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand beat Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto and Yuki Fukushima to enter the quarterfinals of the Asian Games 2026 women’s doubles badminton event at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Indians came away with an 24-22, 21-18 win against the former world champions in an hour-long battle.
Treesa and Gayatri are on track to becoming India’s first-ever medallists in women’s doubles at the Asian Games. A win in their quarterfinal clash will secure them of at least a bronze medal, by virtue of advancing to the semifinals.
Earlier in the Games, the pair was part of the India’s quarterfinal-finish in the women’s team event after a 1-3 loss to Japan in the last-eight stage.
