India’s Ancy Sojan clinched her second consecutive silver medal in women’s long jump at the Asian Games while Shaili Singh missed out on a bronze in agonising fashion in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Sunday.
Going into the final round, Hangzhou 2023 silver medallist Ancy (6.53m) was in first place was Shaili (6.42m) was placed third.
However, China’s Tan Mengyi pushed Shaili to fourth with a last jump of 6.46m.
Huang Yingying, Tan’s compatriot, then went past Ancy with a final leap of 6.55m.
Ancy could have won the gold by matching Huang’s last attempt as then, the Indian’s second-best effort of 6.53m would have better than that of the Chinese (6.49m). But she could only manage a final jump of 6.49m.
