Delhi High Court proposes grievance Redressal Cell in Hockey India

The upcoming Hockey India elections will be conducted under the observation of Supreme Court Justice (retd) A.K. Sikri after the Delhi High Court named him for the role while listening to a petition by president Dilip Tirkey.

Justice Amit Mahajan on Thursday proposed the constitution of a Grievance Redressal Cell within Hockey India to address any issues arising in the matter and further proposed the appointment of Sikri as its chairperson while disposing off the petition.

While the detailed order was yet to be received, the proposal appears to contemplate an institutional mechanism for the consideration and redressal of grievances. The precise composition, terms of reference, jurisdiction, and operational framework of the proposed GRC, together with the status of the proposed appointment, would be subject to the court’s further directions and any formal order.

Tirkey had filed the petition last week seeking judicial intervention in the election process, claiming they were announced by executive board meetings deemed illegal and without his approval as per the Hockey India bye-laws.
