India’s Lovlina Borgohain beat Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in the women’s 75kg boxing semifinal in a split decision (3-2) at the Nishio Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Assam native will now look to improve upon the silver she won in the middleweight category three years ago in Hangzhou.
Lovlina began the bout on the wrong foot as she conceded the opening round 3-2. But she bounced back immediately by claiming 10 points from all five judges in the the second round.
Bogdanova struck back to claim the third round 3-2, but couldn’t shore up the point count enough to overtake the Indian boxer.
Lovlina entered the semifinal by beating South Korea’s Seong Suyeon 5-0 by unanimous decision.
Earlier this year, Lovlina won a silver at the Commonwealth Games, after losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the final.
