India’s Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar went down to Hong Kong China’s Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong 1-2 (10-11, 11-2, 10-11) in the squash mixed doubles semifinals.
The Indian pair fought back from a game down to earn three match points in the decider but could not find the elusive point that would have sealed a place in the gold medal contest.
Joshna and Velavan thought they had won the deciding point in Game 3 and erupted in celebration, only for the judges to call a ‘let’, forcing them to replay the point.
India won the gold medal in this event at the previous Asian Games edition in Hangzhou in 2023. Dipika Palikkal and Harinder Pal Sandhu had beaten Malaysia’s Mohd Syafiq Kamal and Aifa Azman in the summit clash.
Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh also added a bronze three years ago.
Hong Kong, China, can secure a gold medal for the country if the second pair wins its semifinal match. Yee Lam Toby Tse and Cheuk Nam Lai will face Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran and Rachel Arnold in the other final four contest.
