India matches its eight-goal tally against Korea from both the league stage of this tournament and the Asian Games.

PC: Park is in the battery, and he takes a shot, and it flies wide. Off target.

Korea has asked the umpire for a backstick inside the circle, and Korea wins the referral and PC for Korea.

Long pass, and it finds Angad Bir, who was one-on-one, and he takes a backhanded shot—it flies high. Aditya was close by, maybe a pass was better option. 

Korea drives forward with goalscorer Han, and wins a long corner. 

15 more minutes remain in this match as India leads Korea 7-1 and moves one step closer to booking its place in tomorrow’s final against Japan.

Jugraj.. inside his own half, loses the ball inside the circle, and it finds a Korean player, but it’s a good save by Suraj. 

Vishnukant Singh injects the ball, and the goalkeeper makes a good save. 

Sukhjeet drives inside and cuts past defenders, and Shilanand Lakra is in there, and the umpire awards a free hit, but Lakra reviews for a PC. 

India keeps the referral, and it’s a PC for India. 

Sukhjeet Singh finds a good gap and drives a pass inside the circle, and Hardik, running towards the ball, couldn’t time his run, and the attempt is wasted. 

Hardik to Dilpreet, who takes a shot but didn’t connect properly from inside the circle, and it is stopped.

Long corner for India. Amit Rohidas to Vivek, and towards Harmanpreet, Jarmanpreet puts a ball inside the circle, and there is a deflection, and Angad Bir scores.

Sanjay collects a lofted pass and finds Nilakanta Sharma, who takes a reverse shot, and it flies high and above. 

Bizzare! There is a short interruption at the venue as the lights go off. 

KIM gets a yellow card. Korea started with 14 players when play started, and the captain got a yellow card as punishment and will be on the bench for five minutes. This doesn’t help Korea’s cause, given they are trailing by a big margin already. 

At the end of the second quarter, India leads 6-1 and is in complete command of this semifinal clash against Korea. 

Misplaced pass, and India now attacks with Angad. Ball is now with Sanjay. Harmanpreet scoops a pass into the circle and nothing comes out of it.

Harmanpreet Singh fires a slap shot from near the halfway line, and Dilpreet Singh, positioned on the left unmarked, guides the ball into the corner of the goal with a deft first-time touch to score India’s sixth goal.

Angad to Dilpreet—a beautiful team goal for India. Dilpreet won the ball and passed it to Angad, who crossed it again to the forward. 

Sukhjeet scores India’s fourth goal. Sukhjeet collects a beautiful deflected pass from Sanjay, brings the ball down, and slaps a shot to score. 

Seconds later, India scores again.

Jarmanpreet from the right takes a shot; it came in with a lot of power, and the ball hits the Korean player’s hand. Nothing comes from that attack. 

Korea is now pushing once again. 

Hardik challenges, and Korea gets a free hit. 

India has a change in the sticks. Krishan Pathak replaces Suraj Karkera. 

It is the end of the first quarter, and India is dominating proceedings from the start, leading Korea 3-1. A berth in the final is at stake. 

Son D.I. drives inside the box, takes a shot, and wins a long corner. Nilakanta Sharma’s stick was there to defend. 

Hardik Singh injects the PC, and Harmanpreet Singh takes a shot, and it is saved, but the rebound falls to Shilanand Lakra, who scores his second goal of the night. 

Vishnukant receives a good pass from Hardik, and the former takes a very good shot, and Lakra is there to flick the ball, but the goalkeeper saves the attempt.

Few seconds later, India has third PC of this match. 

Harmanpreet to Lakra, and Jarmanpreet collects the ball and gets the ball down but collides with the opponent, the Indian was looking for a PC from it. 

Hardik Singh injects the penalty corner, and the local boy, captain Harmanpreet Singh, scores to give India the lead. It is Harmanpreet’s tenth goal of this campaign. 

Korea finds a gap in the Indian defence, and Han S.J. stretches his stick to deflect the ball past the goalkeeper, who was moving from left to right. The quick deflection leaves him with no chance as Korea equalises.

Aditya is injecting the PC, and Jugraj takes the hit, and it is very close, just wide of the left post. 

Vivek sends the ball forward to Aditya, who finds Lakra, and Dilpreet gets past three, earning India a penalty corner. It is the first PC of this game. 

Hardik to Sukhjeet on the left, but the latter’s pass is misplaced, and Korea is trying to attack now. 

Lakra scores, and gives India the lead. Dilpreet glides through multiple defenders from the edge of the line, passes it across the goal, and Shilanand Lakra is right there to tap the ball into the net. 

Harmanpreet with the ball is slowly making strides toward the front, and the captain takes a long slap shot in a chance of a deflected goal, but it does not end up in the back of the net. 

Harmanpreet lofts the ball from the back to Hardik, who tries to body dodge the opponent, but nothing comes out of that play. 

The match is underway, with India in its orange kit and Korea in Blue. 

The stands overlooking the players’ tunnel are packed with fans. The national anthems are done, and chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ ring around the stadium. The lights have been dimmed as fireworks illuminate the Mohali sky, with this beautiful venue hosting its first-ever international hockey match.

India and Korea players walk out of the tunnel, with fireworks going off. There are many school children in uniform turning out today to support the Indian team.
National anthems coming up. 

Korea wins the toss and chooses sides. India will start proceedings as we try to find who will face Japan in the final. 

There is decent support in the stands for the home side as we gear up for the start of play. 

In other results, Japan has defeated Malaysia 2-1. 

Veteran midfielder Nilakanta Sharma will retire from international hockey after this tournament. The 31-year-old was as part of Tokyo Olympics bronze medal-winning side. He is starting tonight against Korea. 

Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium in Mohali will host its first international hockey match today, with India facing South Korea in the semifinal. 

Defender Sanjay was named Player of the Match in Monday’s 8-0 victory over Korea. He scored India’s sixth goal and is named in the starting XI tonight. 

Abhishek, who has scored three goals in the competition, suffered an injury during India’s 4-2 victory over Malaysia and subsequently missed the final league-stage match against Korea. He has been named among the substitutes for today’s semifinal.

Korea has not beaten India in regulation time since the 2013 Asia Cup final. However, Korea did beat India in a shootout in the final of the 2019 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. 

India has had considerable success against South Korea in recent months, beating them 8-2 at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September and 8-0 at the Asian Champions Trophy on November 2. 

India is the most successful team in Men’s Asian Champions Trophy history, having won five titles. Its victories came in 2011, 2016, 2018, 2023 and 2024, with the 2018 title shared with Pakistan. India defeated China 1-0 in the 2024 final.

India arrived at the Asian Champions Trophy on the back of its gold-medal triumph at the Asian Games 2026. Craig Fulton’s side defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final to successfully defend its Asian Games crown. It was India’s fifth men’s hockey gold at the continental event. 

Harmanpreet Singh is the leading goalscorer of the Asian Champions Trophy 2026 with nine goals in five matches, including eight penalty-corner conversions and one penalty stroke.
