Haryana’s Nishchay breaks 16-year-old National Record in men’s U18 discus throw
Haryana’s Nishchay broke a 16-year-old National Record on his way to the gold medal in men’s U18 discus throw event at the National Junior Athletics Championships in Chennai on Monday.
Nishchay began the competition with an effort of 64.72m, bettering the previous national and meet record of 64.09m set by Arjun in 2010. But the 18-year-old athlete did not stop there.
His second throw was even better – 66.75m. After a third throw of 64.70m, Nishchay had three straight fouls but by then, he had already met his objective.
Rajasthan’s Vishal Kumar took home silver with a throw of 57.72m and Dev Chauhan of Haryana won the bronze (55.28m).
For Nishchay, the achievement comes at the end of a memorable season for Nishchay. In May, he clinched silver medal at the Asian U20 Championships with a new National U20 Record of 60.10m. He also competed at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, but failed to qualify for the final.
